Partner skills
Port of Tenerife is a public entity that manages six ports of public interest in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife,
Canary Islands, Spain. The Port of Tenerife has competences in promoting industrial and commercial activities related
to maritime or port traffic, including optimising the economic administration and management of the port service
area and port user. The organisation is highly motivated in producing technology-innovative measures that would be
beneficial to port operators, the port itself and the community.

Transnational experience
The Port of Tenerife is involved in several national and transnational projects related to sustainability. In line with its
commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in 2016 the Port launched the Sustainable Electric Mobility
Plan, e-Island, which is primarily targeting air emission savings through enhanced energy efficiency and the use of
cleaner and renewable energy. Another example is the INTERREG SEAFUEL project, that aims to make Tenerife the first
Spanish island to host a facility for the generation of sustainable hydrogen for transport.

Role in the project
The Port of S.C. Tenerife will be one of the two additional case-study ports considered in the scope of the extension of
the PORTOS project, providing access to data and information about the port and its facilities from the perspective of
a commercial island port, which has different characteristics compared to continental based ports. In fact, in the initial
group of case study ports, island-based ports were not represented. However, location in peripheral or ultra-peripheral
regions brings different challenges and opportunities that need to be considered. The port will provide also critical
input and insights valuable for the PORTOS activities, besides facilitating the establishment of sustainable port
communities.
